Sinking Ducks!

Topic- Biology/Adaptations

Title- Why don’t ducks sink???

Ducks, as we know are covered in feathers. When feathers get wet, they get soggy. Yet ducks swim and float well. How have duck adapted to their environment?

Hypothesis- Which one of the cottonballs best represents a duck feathers?

The cottonball represent the ducks. We placed the same amount of water in each cup. We will place 1 cotton ball into the water. What happens to the ‘duck’? Next we will dip half the cottonball/duck into the oil and place it in the water. What happened to the duck? Finally we will fully cover the last cottenball/duck in the oil and place it into the water? What happened to the duck?
