  1. I know that detention is a punishment for bad behaviour where you think about your actions outside the principal’s office at recess, lunchtime or after school. I think the video is about kids in detention and maybe how they feel in detention and should we have detention.

I am now thinking that this video is about a service project about helping kids in detention centres. I am learning that this is a huge problem that asylum seekers are also being held in detention centres in Nauru. Over 200 kids are held in detention centres by the government.

The video has made me see another side to detention centres. there are so many kids there that deserve to eventually be let out so I’m glad that the Royal Children’s Hospital are keeping them there

  2. Before: I think it is about kids that has been very bad and been naughty.

During: My thoughts have changed because the people from a school in Melbourne have written letters to Pen pals in Nauru. My wonderings are what does it mean kids in detention?

After: It made me feel sorry for the people in Nauru because they couldn’t go anywhere all because of the Government.

  3. Before: detention is when you have been breaking the rules and have very bad behaviour in the school grounds.I think it is about a kid that is in Detention because he as been bad with behaviour and as been very naughty.
I also think it is about getting detention and why you shouldn’t.

During: I now know that some kids and some asylum seeker that have tried to come to Australia are sent to Nauru. And more than 600+ asylum seekers and 90 kids are sent to Nauru for detention centres. How are the people in Nauru able to get to Australia if they have to stay are nauru.

After: I have now fully learnt that asylum seeker are sent to Nauru and kid have to go to detention centre. I feel sorry for the kids that are t Nauru because they have to stay on a island and not allowed to go anyway.

  4. Before: I think this clip is about a group or one particular child being un-respectful to someone or something due to when we have a detention it is normally because we have been un-respectful and un-behaved.
During: I now think the people in Nauru have been un-behaved so they had to g to the detention centre and their friends send them letters so they don’t feel lonely. I now know the caretakers of the detention centre don’t want some children to go back home and just get special treatment for their bad behaviour. I now know there are 60+ Asylum seekers plus 60 kids at the detention centre. I now know that the government thinks it is a good idea to have the people in the detention centre but many other company’s like doctors don’t like the idea of the kids being at the centre due to medical reasons.
After: In conclusion I disagree with the government because of medical reasons and in case they are home sick and it is not nice to push them to go get special treatment and ask if they want treatment or ask permission from the parents to get special treatment and to go to the centre.

  5. Synthesizing
I know that children go to detention if they get in trouble, if you do get a detention that person will get a note to take it home a note to give to a parent or guardian to sigh it to know that you have done something wrong and then they have to spend their lunch time doing work.
I think this story is about some children beginning in detention for a while or a couple of days because if it’s on the BTN news it must be something seriously. I think it is cruel that the Australia government is keeping children trapped on an island and I think this video is going to also be about children getting sick.
I’m felling sad because children a getting sick and I’m felling happier because some children are learning about refuges and sending them letters to them. I learned some people are refusing to send kids back to Nauru and some school children are trying to help them and starting programs for schools to help refuges. I wonder will the government will let them in to Australia.

600 hundred people are there and 90 of them are children. They are trying learning English which is good for them and they really want to meet there pen pals. This video was really sad then when others tried to help it got better. I wonder if they will ever leave there.

  6. BEFORE
I think detention is where children who have done the wrong thing or didn’t do what they were asked to do and goes and sits in the principals office to do what they’ve been asked to do. I think this story is about a child who gets detention at his/hers school.

    DURING
I now think detention is for children who have been placed in detention centers due to bad behaviour. I also know that Asylum Seekers are also being held in detention centres in Nauru and over 200 kids are currently being held in detention centres by the government.

    AFTER
I have now learned that there are over 600 Asylum Seekers and 90 children are being held at the detention center in Nauru. Children from school have been sending letters to the children in Nauru which is helping them learn English. Some children is Nauru cried tears of joy when they realised there were letters inside the books that were sent. The school that were sending the letters were hoping the children in the detention center will have a better time receiving the letters from the school to brighten up their day.

  7. before : i did not know to much about it
: the story is about children entering Australia from other countries

during : I don’t understand why children are being put in the detention centers as i think it is unfair
: i am leaning that the children are missing out on going to school

after : i have leant that there are children in a worse position in life than myself .
: sad for the children that they are missing out on life

  8. Before
I think that when children do the wrong thing in class or out on the yard that they will get a detention and if they do get a detention they will get a note that tells there parents or guardian that they child has been bad at they school.
    During
I now think that children who have had bad behaviour at the teacher or at other children out on the yard they will be sent to the principal’s office or to anther room and sometimes they will get a paper and pen that you can take to anther room or the principal’s office to right they have done wrong.
    After
I have now learned that there are over 600 Asylum Seekers and 90% of the children are being in detention but that is in Nauru. The children from our school have been sending letters to the children form Nauru to see how they are going and to help them to lean same English so when they came down here they can speak like us.

And also Miss Bradbury there was no clip that I could watch.

  9. Before I now that detention is a punishment for bad behavior in the yard and in the classroom. Detention is not just for bad behavior it is also for bad body language aswell.
During – i now know that 200 kids are being held in detention centers in Naruou. Kids in melbourne have been writing letters totheir Pen Pals in Naruou.
After – the clip made me think about what the kids think/feel like to be in a detention center. And that they cant leave the detention center by the Government. Also i know that 600 Asylum Seekers and 90% of the children are being held in the center.

  13. Before: I think this about a kid that is naughty and doesn’t do his homework and goes to principal’s office and they will a note from the office and it has to get signed.

During I wonder about that if the kid doesn’t want to do he’s homework he might get kick out of the school and or he’s teacher will yell at him and always give him a detention .

After: I have now learned that 600 Asylum seekers and 90% of children have been in detention in Nauru. People have been sending letter over to see how Nauru and the people are going.

  14. Before
I think that there was a naughty boy who was set to the principals office for doing the wrong during class and need to get a from for detention.

    During
That the kids were nice to right to the kids and send them books to read and to learn and know more about them there say what they like.

    After
That 90% of the the children have been detention in Nauru and learned that 600 Asylum seeks and the kids are nice to send letters to them and books and the letters are about them then send letters back to the kids in Melbourne P.S.

  15. Before: I think that it is about some children that were naughty and the the teacher gave them a detention.

During: I now think that the detention center is a bad thing because the children aren’t free and their trapped in a tiny space.

After: I have now learned that 600 Asylum seekers and 90% of children have been in detention centers in Nauru (a small island in the Pacific Ocean). people have been sending letters over to Nauru to see how the people are going.

Sorry it was a bit late, I forgot to do it!! 🙂

  16. BEFORE: I think that the story is about kids in detention for the following reasons.
    A. Not listening or misbehaving in class.
    B. Not doing homework.
    C. Already getting a detention and not geting a parent/gaurdian to sign their detention form.

DURING:Children have been learning about refugees and asylym seekers. They have recently been writing to pen pals in detention on a small island called Nauru. 600 asylym seekers are now being held on Nauru. Most of the children in the detention center are learning english.

AFTER: 200 kids were and probably still are being held in a detention center. Schools are writing to children held on a small island called Nauru as pen pals. 90% of children are stuck in the centre.

    Sorry its late:(

  17. I thing its about a kid that is bad and wont to his homework and goes taking to the office and they will a note from the office and it has to get signed.
During I wonder about that if the kid doesn’t want to do he’s homework he might get in truballl or he’s teacher will yell at him and always give him a detention .

  18. I know that detention is a punishment for bad actions like swearing at teachers smashing the windows kicking people punching people

  19. I think that the clip is about detention:
1 no following instructions in class
    2 no behaving n class

I now think that it is about a detention:
1 it is a island for bad people to think about what they done.
2 I think that the boat is for detention.
